Gunnings Automotive Group, currently Australia’s leading Isuzu D-Max dealer, invited us to test a top of the range LS-U model recently.
This award-winning 4×4 utility, from Japans’s oldest car maker (since 1916) was built in Thailand and featured a five-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift. Its 3.0 litre turbo diesel in-line four-cylinder DOHC, 16-valve engine produced a maximum of 130 kW @ 3,600rpm with 380Nm of torque @ between 1800 and 2800 rpm.
The 4 x 4 “Terrain Command” system was operated “on the fly” from 4H to 2WD via. a dial set on the centre console just aft of the gear shift.
Riding on 17” x 7” alloy wheels with 255/65 R17 HT road tyres the Isuzu D-Max LS-U gave a comfortable ride, with reasonable acceleration and very smooth gear changes.
We towed the Trailcraft opposite down to Wallaroo and back, finding that its 1,600kg total weight was barely noticeable.
A tailgate-mounted camera displayed the rear view of both tow bar and the immediate area in high detail on the large 7” console screen. We might have tried the hill-ascent/descent controls on the boat ramp but there was simply no need.
On its own, the D-Max LS-U really impressed with its combination of an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, comprehensive dash with instant data access, highly efficient climate control, spacious interior and excellent visibility.
In terms of practicality for both work and play, the Isuzu D-Max LS-U clearly has much to offer. To learn more, contact Gunnings Automotive Group of Kadina on 8821 1022 and arrange your own test drive.
