Marine Engineering upgrade at Academy

Marine Engineering upgrade at Academy

The increasing size and complexity of boats and their motors, in both the fishing and off-shore oil and gas industries, will severely limit employment opportunities for seafarers who hold Marine Engine Driver Grade 1 (MED1) qualifications.

The pressure is now on seafarers with this qualification to upgrade to Marine Engineer Class 3.

If you are looking to upgrade your MED1 ticket, the Australian Maritime and Fisheries Academy has programmed a Marine Engineer Class 3 course commencing 1 June 2015.

This course will prepare you to undertake the role of Chief Engineer on a vessel with a propulsion system up to 3000kW operating within the Economic Exclusion Zone.

This course is also a pathway to the Engineer Watchkeeper Diploma which can lead to an STCW-endorsed Certificate of Competency that is not limited by a vessel’s power.

Places in this course are limited. For further enquires or to register your interest, please call the Australian Maritime and Fisheries Academy on 8303 2780. You can check out the full 2015 Timetable at www.afa.edu.au.
